2016 Farmland School Tax Rebate

Applications for the 2016 Farmland School Tax Rebate and proof that property taxes along with any penalties and interest are paid in full must be received by Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation by the March 31, 2017 deadline.  For additional information see www.masc.mb.ca/fstr or call 204-726-7068.

E Billing
Receive your utility bill by email.  Just fill out the E Billing Application Form and send it in to our office.
 
Tax Due Date
Current taxes are due on September 30, 2016.

Tax Arrears
Penalties of 1.25% per month is added to any outstanding taxes on the first of every month.

Tax Payments
Current taxes are due Friday September 30th, 2016. Payment may be made in person or by mail. Payments may be made via cheques, money orders, debit (ensure daily withdrawal limit covers remittance), telebanking and web banking. When making payments online, please include all numbers (including zeroes) to ensure payment is applied correctly.
 
** Note - most financial institutions take 2-4 business days to process the online payment. Penalties will be applied if the payment is not received by the due date.

Cheques and money orders should be made payable to the R.M. of Cartier. Postdated cheques dated September 30th, 2016 will be accepted and a night deposit box located outside of the Administration Office is available for after hours cheque payments. Should you require a receipt, please provide your email address where we can send the receipt or pay in person at the Municipal Office during regular business hours.

Proper retention of receipts is important as there is a $10.00 charge per receipt per year for 2015 and prior. Penalties of 1.25% per month will be added to the outstanding taxes October 1st and on the first day of each month thereafter, until paid. Please provide correct information when updating your mailing address including Box Number, Postal Code and Street Address.

If you are moving please provide us with your new complete mailing address. If you are interested in receiving future utility and tax billings via e-mail please provide us with your current e-mail address.

T.I.P.P. Program - is available!
The Tax Installment Payment Plan (TIPP) is a monthly tax payment plan that allows rate payers to make consecutive monthly payments that are deducted automatically from their bank account.

The TIPP Program starts on January 1st of each year and payments are made on the fifteenth banking day of each month through automatic withdrawal from an account with chequing privileges at a financial institution.
The TIPP program collects taxes for the calendar year January 1st to December 31st and ensures that all taxes are paid without penalty.

Deadline to sign up is February 29, 2016 for the 2016 tax year.

Manitoba Education Property Tax Credit Program
The Manitoba Government offers an Education Property Tax Credit up to a maximum of $700.
 
After November 15th, 2016 the 2016 MB Education Property Tax Credit can be claimed on your Income Tax. MB Education Property Tax Information Website.

Savings for Seniors!
The 2016 Rebate will be claimed when you file your 2016 income tax return in the spring of 2017. This means that a separate application will no longer be necessary. For further information visit the Province of Manitoba seniors school tax rebate webpage.
 
Issuance of Assessment Notices
Assessment notices are distributed through the Provincial Assessment Office and mailed to the ratepayers.

Appeal on Assessment
An assessment can be appealed through Board of Revision annually and correspondence should be directed to the Municipal Office. Appeals should be in writing and must clearly state the reasons for an appeal. Tax Certificates
Provision of tax information on properties will be provided by Tax Certificate request only. The fee for a tax certificate is $30.00 per roll number.  The request can be made by email to taxes@rm-cartier.mb.ca

Utility Billing
Utility Billing for water and sewer is billed every 3 months. Bills are sent out in January, April, July and October. Late payments are subject to monthly penalties of 1.25 %.
